The Volunteer and Pro Bono Program Director (“VPPD”) is responsible for the recruitment, training, scheduling of volunteer attorneys and non-attorneys and interns for the Legal Assistance department and functions as a senior litigator. The VPPD ensures that the department’s volunteers receive the support and supervision necessary to provide appropriate and quality legal services, including legal needs assessments, advice, brief services, and direct representation to the department’s clients. The VPPD coordinates and oversees legal matters that have been placed with Pro Bono attorneys who agree to represent clients of the department. The VPPD also functions as a Senior Litigation attorney for the department; the VPPD will provide advice, brief services, and direct representation on a variety of cases. Leadership and guidance is provided by the VPPD to the department staff and volunteers on a variety of legal issues with a special focus on those within their area(s) of expertise. The VPPD provides support to the Legal Assistance Department Director by providing in the day to day operations of the department as assigned.
Preferred Requirements: Juris Doctor. Seven to ten years practicing attorney with five to seven years of experience with legal aid and/or family, housing consumer law or other experience. Illinois license attorney. Bilingual Spanish.
